Effective risk assessment for Down syndrome and other chromosome abnormalities requires ultrasound measurement to detect the presence and size of the nuchal translucency (NT), a fluid filled space located behind the neck of the fetus. To use NTD Labs’ services, physicians and sonographers must become credentialed in NT measurement.
Once NTD Labs has received appropriate notification that you are qualified to perform NT measurements, we can begin accepting your dried blood spot specimens and provide you with a complete first trimester risk result. NTD Labs will log in the sonographer’s NT measurement for each sample received and will send each sonographer their NT medians on a quarterly basis. NTD Labs will also submit these medians to the FMF on an annual basis for certificate renewal. The FMF also reviews 5 NT scans on a yearly basis.

Dried blood spot sample cards, finger stick devices (lancets), requisitions, and patient education materials are all available from NTD Labs. First Trimester Screen | Fß and all other test results are faxed, emailed, mailed, or called in, as preferred by the healthcare provider. Our internal policy is to call the physician for all patient results which are determined to be at increased risk.
